My officemate informed me that they are now soon transferring into their new house. And we’re talking about housing, proofing and a lot more about house matters. Suddenly we tackled about house designs and he quickly shared some information about using asbestos materials for house proofing. I didn’t know what’s that all about, cause he just told me not to use that material if ever I have a plan to build my own house someday. Cause it will lead to mesothelioma disease.

So I tried to research what’s asbestos and mesothelioma can bring.

Asbestos = is a group of minerals with long, thin fibrous crystals
Asbestos became increasingly popular among manufacturers and builders in the late 19th century due to its resistance to heat, electricity and chemical damage, its sound absorption and tensile strength. This "miracle material" is now known to be highly toxic. The inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause serious illnesses, including mesothelioma and asbestosis.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos.

Their are 3 types of mesothelioma:
1.)Pleural mesothelioma = affects the lining of the lungs.
Symptoms: Breathing & swallowing difficualties, coughing, shortness of breath, fever & weight loss.
2.)Peritoneal mesothelioma = This is not as common as pleural mesothelioma.
Symptoms: Nausea & vomiting, weight loss & loss of appetite, fever, bowel obstruction and pain, swelling of the stomach area.
3.)Pericardial mesothelioma = affects the heart and the tissue surrounding it.
Symptoms: Palpitations, breathing difficulties, and persistent coughing.

The treatments for mesothelioma includes:
1.) surgery 2.) radiation therapy 3.) palliative therapy 4.) chemotherapy.
